The gift of serving is what ministry is all about. Without serving there is no ministry. We should serve out of great joy; not out of obligation, manipulation, or to the point of feeling annoyed by the act of servanthood. We should be joyously willing to present our bodies, as a living sacrifice (according to Romans 12:1). The gift of service will require sacrifice; but God gives us the grace to be a servant – stated as “minister” in Ephesians 3:7. Romans 12:2 let’s us know that the transforming and renewing of our mind enables us (gives us the grace) to do the perfect will of God.
If we say we want to be more like Jesus, what we’re really saying is I WANT TO BE A SERVANT. Philippians 2:7-8 says Jesus took on the form of a servant. In His glory, JESUS said: “Don’t make a big deal out of me; I’m here to serve.” Ought not this same mind be in you and me?
